PRIGeoC
The scientific objectives are to be achieved through 7 collaborative work packages whereas the general objectives will be achieved through the secondments of researchers within the consortium. The PRIGeoC project addresses one of the most challenging problems facing the construction industry today. By using novel and effective geopolymer binders the project will demonstrate that the geopolymer concrete can perform as well as the OPC concrete and in some applications the geopolymer concrete can perform better than the OPC concrete if they are properly designed. Worldwide, the cost of energy is rising inexorably as fuel sources deplete. This has clear, traceable impacts on the cost of producing cement and its market price. Green taxes are an additional cost that is incurred if emissions are not restricted, potentially leading to a doubling in the price of cement by 2030. Thus, this research to find alternative ‘green’ materials which can reduce or replace OPC in concrete has both social and economic importance.
